Status updated by our Observatory Director on Tuesday,

Observatory will open tonight at 7:00 PM with Saturn in
the eyepiece.
Excellent skies this evening with very good seeing and
transparency predicted.
One of the objects on the observing list is Herschel's
Garnet Star. This red
supergiant is a carbon star with a diameter so large it
would nearly reach
the planet Saturn if it were placed at the center of our
solar system.
It's the third largest known star in our galaxy.
Please dress for temperature 15°F lower than nighttime
predicted low. |

Jet Stream (updates
automatically to latest available image)
The Jet Stream affects astronomical "seeing" (steadiness of the air)
If
we're in a gray area, seeing will not be as good as in a white area.
If
we're in a white area, the shorter the arrows, the better.
