Aug 8 - Solar Party

Part 1 of today's Astronomy Double-Header!

Current skies are mostly cloudy with overcast. These are poor conditions for solar observing. Transparency is critical for solar observing and we don't have that condition and from current radar, it doesn't look promising any time soon. As a result, the solar party is CANCELLED.

Public Observing Event
at the ACA Observatory

Saturday Solar Party + Cookout

View sunspots, prominences, filaments and solar flares
on our star, the Sun, with detail shown
only when the view is limited to the light of
Hydrogen-alpha (H-α) at 656.28 nm (6562.8 Ångstroms)
provided by specially equipped solar telescopes.
.
We'll also have our grill-master cooking up the
best hotdogs and hamburgers available in the park!

(Please note that the food is available for a small fee)

Solar System objects rise/transit/set times from the ACA Observatory on the date of this event...

New feature: The "T" on each object's line in the chart above indicates the time of transit in addition to the rise and set times for the object.

Jet Stream (updates automatically to latest available image)
    The Jet Stream affects astronomical "seeing" (steadiness of the air)
    If we're in a gray area, seeing will not be as good as in a white area.
    If we're in a white area, the shorter the arrows, the better.
